Juanita Medina and her partner, Oswald Dominguez were killed in an automobile accident on Sunday, March 26. The couple's five-year old survived the accident and will be staying with relatives.
Isaac Dominguez, 5, saw what happened to his parents last Sunday when they were driving home from his aunt’s house: They hit a tree; they were hurt; and they’re not coming back. He just doesn’t know what it means.
“He doesn’t have a clue. He said, ‘Mom’s not coming home.’ But after that he forgot about it,” said Isaac’s aunt, Nancy Gonzalez.
Juanita “Tata” Medina , 27, was driving on Interstate 95 in Sharon at 5:30 a.m. on March 26 when her Toyota Corolla went into a sideways slide across all three northbound lanes before veering onto the right-hand shoulder. The sedan slammed into a tree, roof first, as it cartwheeled into the woods.
Medina and her boyfriend, Oswald Dominguez, 29, were killed. Their son was wearing a seat belt, but he wasn’t properly strapped into a child-safety seat. He miraculously survived with just a scratch on his forehead and a mark on his neck from the seat belt.
“It’s like he had an angel next to him,” said Medina’s sister, Emely, 19, as she folded laundry at her mother’s home, waiting for Isaac to show up.
Within minutes, the little boy burst into the living room of the Norwood home with his cousins Cameron, 7, and Christopher, 5, and ran past the pink and blue floral crosses for his parents without giving them a glance.
“That’s my daughter’s blood,” said the boy’s maternal grandmother, who has temporary custody of the boy. “That’s my best wish, to keep
Isaac, who will enter kindergarten in the fall, lived with Medina in a Randolph apartment. His father, Oswald Dominguez, of Brockton , would take care of him during the day while Medina worked as a receptionist at Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center.
“I got a lot of pain,” said his paternal grandmother, Esperenza Pizzaro. “Every day he said, ‘Daddy, I love you.’ Every five minutes.”
